Table 1 (fictional data, for practice): remote hires at a software company by quarter.

Table 1: Remote hires by quarter
QuarterEngineeringSalesFinanceTotal
Q12416848
Q23014650
Q32718954
Q433211266

Question 1

What percentage of all Q3 hires were in sales?

  1. 30.0%
  2. 33.3%
  3. 35.0%
  4. 36.0%
Show answer and explanation

Answer: B, 33.3%. Q3 total = 27 + 18 + 9 = 54. Sales share = 18 ÷ 54 = 0.333, so 33.3%. Tip: always find the right total first; the table gives it, but check it.

Question 2

By what percentage did total hires rise from Q1 to Q4?

  1. 18.0%
  2. 27.3%
  3. 37.5%
  4. 41.2%
Show answer and explanation

Answer: C, 37.5%. Change = 66 − 48 = 18. Percentage change = change ÷ starting value = 18 ÷ 48 = 37.5%. The trap answer 27.3% divides by the end value (18 ÷ 66).

Question 3

What was the average number of engineering hires per quarter?

  1. 27
  2. 28.5
  3. 29
  4. 30
Show answer and explanation

Answer: B, 28.5. (24 + 30 + 27 + 33) ÷ 4 = 114 ÷ 4 = 28.5.

Question 4

In which quarter was the ratio of engineering hires to finance hires the highest?

  1. Q1
  2. Q2
  3. Q3
  4. Q4
Show answer and explanation

Answer: B, Q2. Engineering ÷ finance: Q1 24 ÷ 8 = 3, Q2 30 ÷ 6 = 5, Q3 27 ÷ 9 = 3, Q4 33 ÷ 12 = 2.75. Q2 is highest. The quarter with the most engineering hires (Q4) is not the answer, because finance hires grew too.

Question 5

If finance hires rise by 25% in the next quarter and the other two departments hire the same as in Q4, how many hires will there be in total?

  1. 66
  2. 69
  3. 72
  4. 81
Show answer and explanation

Answer: B, 69. Finance: 12 × 1.25 = 15. Total = 33 + 21 + 15 = 69. Apply the percentage only to the part that changes.

Table 2 (fictional data, for practice): monthly software costs of a 40-person remote team.

Table 2: Monthly software costs
ToolPrice per user per month (US$)Users
Video calls1240
Project management925
Design206
Password manager440

Question 6

What is the team's total monthly software cost?

  1. $925
  2. $985
  3. $1,045
  4. $1,105
Show answer and explanation

Answer: B, $985. Multiply price by users for each row, then add: 12 × 40 = 480, 9 × 25 = 225, 20 × 6 = 120, 4 × 40 = 160. Total = 480 + 225 + 120 + 160 = $985.

Question 7

The project management tool is rolled out to all 40 people, and the vendor gives a 10% discount on the per-user price. How much more does the tool cost per month than now?

  1. $99
  2. $135
  3. $144
  4. $360
Show answer and explanation

Answer: A, $99. New cost = 40 × $9 × 0.9 = $324. Current cost = 25 × $9 = $225. Difference = $324 − $225 = $99. $135 ignores the discount (40 × 9 − 225).

Question 8

Roughly what share of the current monthly software cost goes on the password manager?

  1. 4%
  2. 10%
  3. 16%
  4. 20%
Show answer and explanation

Answer: C, 16%. $160 ÷ $985 = 0.162, so about 16%. The trap 4% is the per-user price, not a share. With "roughly" questions, round early: 160 ÷ 1,000 is 16%.

Questions

How long is the numerical reasoning test?

20 questions in 15 minutes, so about 45 seconds per question. The clock starts when you press Start and keeps running if you reload or close the page. At 0:00 your answers are submitted automatically.

Can I go back and change answers?

Yes. Use the question navigator to jump to any question and change your answer until you submit or the time runs out. Unanswered questions count as wrong; there is no penalty for guessing.

Do I get the same questions each attempt?

Yes. Each test has a fixed set of 20 questions, so a second or third attempt partly measures memory. Use the explanations to learn the methods, then retake it to practice your pace.

Can I use a calculator?

Yes, a basic calculator and scratch paper are fine, as in most numerical tests. Every question can be solved with the four operations and percentages.

Is this a real employer test?

No. The question formats are similar to those used in common employer aptitude tests. This is an independent practice test written by us, not an official test of any employer or test publisher and not affiliated with one. It has not been validated or normed, so treat your score as practice feedback only.

Do you show an IQ score or a percentile?

No. The cognitive, numerical and verbal tests show how many questions you answered correctly, a breakdown by question type and the time you used. The psychometric test shows a work-style profile instead of a score. There is no external norm group behind these tests, so we do not compare you with the general population. A comparison with other Remotely Scaled test-takers will be added once enough people have taken a test, and only then.

Are the questions copied from real tests?

No. Every question was written by us for these tests. We based them on the publicly described formats of common aptitude tests (question types and timing), not on any real test's questions.

What do I get when I buy?

Each test is 20 questions with a countdown timer (cognitive ability test 10 minutes, numerical reasoning test 15 minutes, verbal reasoning test 10 minutes, the psychometric test 10 minutes). You can take each test up to 3 times. After each attempt of the cognitive, numerical or verbal test you see your score, a breakdown by question type, and every question with the correct answer and a short explanation; the psychometric test gives you a work-style profile. Prices: $21 each for the cognitive, numerical and verbal tests, $29 for the psychometric test. All four together are $59 instead of $92 (you save $33).

How do I pay, and is it a subscription?

It is a one-time payment through a secure Stripe checkout, not a subscription. Prices show in euros if you are in the EU and in US dollars everywhere else. Stripe picks the checkout currency from your location, so it can differ from the one shown here. After paying you return to this site and can start right away.

Can I use my tests on another device?

Yes. After checkout we email a personal access link to the address you used. Open it on any device. If you lose it, enter your checkout email on the test page and we will send it again.

Is my data stored?

We store your purchase reference, the time you started your access, how many attempts you used and your answers for scoring. We do not store your name. Your checkout email is used by Stripe and to send your access link. See the privacy policy.

What is a numerical reasoning test?

A timed test of how well you read data in tables and charts and work with percentages, ratios, averages and rates of change. You do not need advanced maths; speed and accuracy with the basics matter most.

How can I get faster at numerical reasoning?

Practice the common calculations (percentage change, share of total, ratios), read the question before the chart, estimate before you calculate and move on from a question that is taking too long. Our tips article covers each step.
