About the role
Mercury is building the financial and banking* products founders actually want: one that’s fast, intuitive, and crafted to help them do more with their money. As AI changes how companies are built and run, we’re rethinking what Mercury can do for the people running them. We’re looking for a Tech Communications Lead to tell that story and to make Mercury the company founders, builders, and the broader tech world think of when it comes to AI and innovation in finance and banking. This includes:
Shaping and owning Mercury’s technology and innovation narrative, including how we’re building AI that helps founders and entrepreneurs run better
Partner with our co-founder and senior product and AI leaders to bring that story to market through integrated comms: podcasts, events, content, social, press, and more
In this role, you will report to our Head of Comms and own how the world understands Mercury’s approach to technology and AI. You’ll turn what our product and AI teams are building into stories that resonate with customers, prospects, future teammates, and investors, and you’ll put our leaders in the rooms and conversations that matter. You’ll join a creative, scrappy, and highly collaborative comms team where ideas move fast and you’ll have real ownership from day one. If you love sitting at the intersection of product, storytelling, and the startup ecosystem, and want to build something rather than maintain it, this role is for you.
- Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.
Here are some things you’ll do on the job
Develop and own Mercury’s technology, AI, and innovation narrative, translating complex product and engineering work into clear, compelling stories for founders/entrepreneurs, SMBs, and the broader tech community
Partner closely with our co-founder and senior product and AI leaders to build their thought leadership platforms, including messaging, talking points, bylines, and social presence
Build and run an integrated comms program across podcasts, speaking opportunities, events, owned content, social media, and press to grow Mercury’s reputation in AI and innovation
Identify and secure high-impact podcast, conference, and media opportunities that put our leaders in front of customers, prospects, talent, and investors
Lead comms for product and AI launches in partnership with product marketing, ensuring every launch ladders up to a cohesive innovation story
Cultivate relationships with tech, AI, and startup journalists, creators, and podcast hosts
Create and edit content such as blog posts, executive social posts, talks, and briefing docs, and coach spokespeople to deliver them with confidence
Keep a pulse on the AI and fintech landscape, spotting trends, competitive moves, and moments where Mercury can lead the conversation
Measure what’s working and use those insights to sharpen strategy over time
Use AI tools to scale the team’s output and experiment with new formats, workflows, and ways of reaching our audiences
You should
Have 7-10 years of experience in communications with significant time spent on tech, product, or AI storytelling at a high-growth startup or tech company
Be a hands-on, fluent user of AI tools in your own work, whether for research, workflow automation, or content and be excited to find new ways AI can make a small comms team punch above its weight
Have a track record of building executive and founder thought leadership programs, especially across podcasts, speaking, and social
