About the role
Mercury is building the financial stack ambitious companies use to operate, from banking* to bill pay to forecasting, and everything in between. As we scale, the strategic choices we make about what we build, who we buy, and who we partner with are some of the highest-leverage decisions in the business. To help us make those bets well, we're hiring a Lead on our Corporate Development team.
This role reports to the Head of Corporate Development. You'll work on M&A, fundraising, investor relations, and strategic projects that shape where Mercury goes next, with a seat at the table on those decisions at a profitable, growth-stage fintech and direct exposure to our CEO, CFO, and executive team.
This is a function being built, so you'll have the chance to build the corp dev, IR, and strategy muscle at Mercury as we grow, with reps on real deals. We've closed two acquisitions and the M&A roadmap is active. We run Corp Dev as an AI-native, flat, and high-agency team.
M&A and Strategic Investments
Own M&A pipeline tracking and target sourcing - keep a living view of strategic and financial opportunities across our roadmap
Partner closely with Product and GTM leadership to surface where M&A or strategic partnerships could accelerate the roadmap - translating product strategy and GTM gaps into a live, prioritized M&A thesis
Run Mercury's Market Intel function - maintain a steady flow of competitive and industry intelligence that informs exec decision-making (fintech peers, public comps, private market signals)
Run M&A diligence - financial modeling, target evaluation, synergy analysis, working with legal/finance/product on deal execution
Drive post-close integration: own the integration plan, run the cross-functional workstreams (Finance, Product, Engineering, People, Legal) and track the deal against the model it was bought on
Investor Relations
Drive preparation of Mercury's Board of Directors materials, alongside the Head of Corp Dev, partnering with the exec team on content and narrative
Support investor relations: investor updates, KPI reporting, comps tracking, ad hoc requests from existing investors
Build fundraising materials - pitch decks, data room, financial models, investor narrative - alongside the Head of Corp Dev and CFO
You Might Be a Fit If You
Have 5–8 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years in an in-house Corporate Development seat at a tech company. Investment banking, PE, or growth equity experience before that is welcome but not required
Have direct reps on live M&A deals - diligence, modeling and execution
Have driven post-close integration on the company side: owned the plan after a deal closed, ran the cross-functional workstreams, and were accountable for whether the deal delivered what the model said
Are highly analytical and comfortable with data: you can pull the numbers yourself, find what matters in them, and size the analysis to the decision, from a back-of-envelope estimate to a full model
Work with AI every day: you have used AI to build your own workflows and scaled your output
Write clearly. Can take a messy strategic question and produce a memo or board-ready slide that drives a decision
Are comfortable operating across Product, Engineering, and GTM - you can hold a real conversation with a PM about roadmap tradeoffs and with a sales leader about pipeline gaps, and translate both into corp dev opportunities
Have a point of view. Can disagree with senior leaders constructively and back it up with analysis
