About the role

Job Description Summary

The Environmental Program Leader – Hazardous Waste and Dangerous Goods Compliance will provide enterprise leadership, technical expertise, and continuous improvement across hazardous waste management and dangerous goods/hazmat transportation. In this highly visible role, the successful candidate will shape strategy, influence enterprise standards, and partner across sites and functions to strengthen compliance, standardize processes, improve environmental performance, and enable safe, reliable operations across the business.

This role is ideal for a senior environmental leader who brings deep technical expertise, sound business judgment, and the ability to drive impact across a complex, matrixed organization – translating complex regulatory requirements into clear, practical, and scalable processes that support both compliance excellence and operational execution.

Success in this role requires a demonstrated ability to work across functional teams to achieve environmental and compliance objectives; strong problem-solving, project management, planning, organizational, time management, and analytical skills; and strong communication skills, including the ability to translate technical environmental risks and requirements for non-technical audiences and influence positive behavioral change.

This position will require up to 30% travel.

Roles and Responsibilities

Lead enterprise direction for hazardous waste and dangerous goods compliance, including development and execution of short- and long-term goals and objectives for the EHS function.

Develop, maintain, and continuously improve enterprise standard work for waste characterization, container management, labeling, storage, inspection, manifesting, and vendor qualification.

Provide technical environmental support, practical guidance, and compliance solutions to GE Aerospace sites on hazardous waste and dangerous goods requirements.

Represent GE Aerospace with governmental environmental agencies and trade/professional associations to support regulatory interpretation and compliance alignment.

Track environmental performance metrics and drive actions that improve compliance and operating performance.

Prepare comments on proposed environmental regulations and assess potential business impacts.

Support sites with waste determinations, supporting documentation, analytical methods, and compliance execution.

Participate in internal and external compliance audits and support audit readiness, inspection response, CAPA development, and closure verification for recurring or material findings.

Provide governance for dangerous goods/hazmat transportation, including classification, packaging, marking, labeling, shipping papers, modal requirements, training controls, and shipment readiness reviews.

Review trends from incidents, near misses, shipment errors, permit events, and vendor performance to identify risks and prioritize preventive actions.

Lead practical training and coaching for site EHS operations, with a focus on common failure modes and effective controls.

Partner with site EHS, legal, operations, quality, and logistics teams to interpret requirements and implement practical controls aligned to site processes.
