About the role
Ready to do the most impactful work of your career? At Coinbase, we are uncompromising on our mission to increase economic freedom. The bar is high, the environment is intense, and we like it that way. This isn't a place for complacency, it’s a place to be pushed past your perceived limits. If you're ready to build the future of finance alongside people who refuse to settle for "good enough," you belong here. Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” Learn more about working at Coinbase.
We're hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join Coinbase's Consumer Agentic Finance team. We're building the most trusted financial agent on the most trusted financial exchange: one agent that watches a user's money and the markets, answers any question about their portfolio and trades on their behalf. As the team's frontend technical lead, you'll set the direction for every interface that brings it to users.
What you'll do
Own frontend experiences for the user's agent end to end across mobile and web, including the conversational interface, the trading ideas experience and the entry points that bring users to their agent from across the app
Build real-time, streaming interfaces for AI-driven advice, one-tap trade approvals and autonomous execution that keeps the agent's reasoning legible
Set frontend architecture and technical direction across our agentic surfaces (streaming state, real-time market data and conversational UX), and raise the bar through design reviews, standards and mentorship
Shape agent behavior directly through prompt engineering, evals and conversation analysis
Partner with design, backend engineering and our registered investment adviser to take features from concept to launch inside regulatory guardrails
Required Skills and Experience
8+ years of professional engineering experience shipping consumer-facing products at scale
Expert-level mobile experience in React Native and native iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin) development (experience across both platforms a plus) and proficiency in TypeScript and React
Demonstrated technical leadership of frontend architecture across multiple product areas or a platform, including state management, API integration patterns and performance work that measurably improved latency or reliability, while guiding other engineers through it
Experience building with LLMs in production: agentic systems, tool calling, streaming responses or conversational interfaces
Proven track record driving projects from zero to production with minimal oversight, owning both product and technical decisions
Backend experience (Go preferred) and familiarity with crypto, trading or financial products are a plus
Obsessed with figuring out how you can improve your productivity and code quality leveraging the latest AI-driven coding best practices
